RECOMMEND: Perian - The swiss-army knife of QuickTime® components

This works really good if you got some tricky video formats on OS X that won't playback properly or that you want to work with. http://perian.org/

I use it in conjunction with the free MPEG STREAMCLIP (http://www.squared5.com/) which works better than any ripoff $1k video editing program in regards to editing out clips, video format conversions and quickly taking still images from video in the highest possible quality.
