Egypt: 3rd weapons cache found in 48 hours

Al-Arish– Ma'an
– Egyptian State Security discovered a third weapons storehouse within 48 hours on Tuesday, security sources said.

Egyptian forces were informed that smugglers were attempting to transfer explosives and weapons to a storehouse in the Sinai peninsula, sources told Ma'an.

Forces raided the area south of the Al-Arish port city and discovered 65 anti-aircraft missiles, 35 anti-tank missiles, as well as large quantities or ammunition, the sources added.

Egyptian security forces said they discovered weapons and explosives on Monday, hidden in the border city of Rafah, prepared for smuggling into Gaza through tunnels.

Security sources told Ma'an that Egyptian forces raided a cemetery in Rafah, 3 kilometers from the Gaza border, and found a weapons cache including anti-tank land mines.

A second weapons store was found in the Al-Ahrash border area, which included machine guns and ammunition, also prepared for smuggling into Gaza, sources said. -more

JCPA Taking Direct Aim at Anti-Israel Boycotters

"With anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions efforts gaining visibility, the Jewish community’s main public-policy coordinating body is for the first time confronting the BDS movement as a specific and stated priority.

At its recent annual plenum, the Jewish Council for Public Affairs passed a resolution stating that BDS should now “be regarded with the utmost seriousness and urgency.”

“This is a very serious matter,” JCPA’s executive director, Rabbi Steve Gutow, told the Forward. “We need to wake up, whether we are on the right, left or center.”

The JCPA, an umbrella body representing Jewish community relations councils across the country and more than a dozen leading national Jewish groups, adopted the anti-BDS resolution at its plenum in Dallas on February 23. Gutow said that JCPA member groups are planning to create a permanent body that would respond to the activities of the BDS movement.

While efforts to promote boycotts, divestment and sanctions targeting Israel are nothing new, an international BDS movement embracing a shared platform emerged only in 2005, in response to a call from Palestinian NGOs. Palestinian Talks (1985)

Today's Golden Oldie is a Dry Bones cartoon done 25 years ago in 1985. Back then, Mr. Shuldig (my alter ego) was tired of the "breaking news" about the Palestinians actually being ready to negotiate.

"Hussie" referred to King Hussein of Jordan. An Arab country that would sign a peace treaty with the Jewish State nine years later (in 1994).

Mubarak was, and is, the President of Egypt. An Arab country that had signed a peace treaty with the Jewish State six years earlier, (in 1979).

* * * Here in 2010, 25 years later, the latest news is a possible "breakthrough" with the Palestinian leadership!! Under pressure from the Americans, they may be ready for direct talks!

...and then again, maybe not.

the Mosque

Here's an interesting analysis by dissenting Muslims. It was published in the Ottowa Citizen. It's called Mischief in Manhattan:

"We Muslims know the idea behind the Ground Zero mosque is meant to be a deliberate provocation to thumb our noses at the infidel. The proposal has been made in bad faith and in Islamic parlance, such an act is referred to as "Fitna," meaning "mischief-making" that is clearly forbidden in the Koran.

The Koran commands Muslims to, "Be considerate when you debate with the People of the Book" -- i.e., Jews and Christians. Building an exclusive place of worship for Muslims at the place where Muslims killed thousands of New Yorkers is not being considerate or sensitive, it is undoubtedly an act of "fitna"

So what gives Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf of the "Cordoba Initiative" and his cohorts the misplaced idea that they will increase tolerance for Muslims by brazenly displaying their own intolerance in this case?

Do they not understand that building a mosque at Ground Zero is equivalent to permitting a Serbian Orthodox church near the killing fields of Srebrenica where 8,000 Muslim men and boys were slaughtered?

There are many questions that we would like to ask. Questions about where the funding is coming from? If this mosque is being funded by Saudi sources, then it is an even bigger slap in the face of Americans, as nine of the jihadis in the Twin Tower calamity were Saudis". -more

Back in 1999 the question of how Israel could meet its water needs was being debated. We thought we should put all our efforts into desalination. But our staunch, stable, loyal and reliable middle eastern friend and ally, Turkey, offered to sell us the water instead. They even suggested filling giant plastic balloons with water and floating them to us. That was pretty creative idea, so I tried to come up with an even more creative alternate plan.

Just eleven years later we are now faced with an anti-western and unfriendly Turkey. If you're interested in the deal they were trying to sell us, here's the story as reported in 2001:

What is an operating system?

An operating system is a set of programs that manages the hardware and resources for the computer system. It also handles files, programs and deals with other requests. It controls over the Input and output devices. It plays the role of an interface between the users and the computer for interaction between them. The computer is use less without operating system. The example of operating system are: Ms-DOS, Windows 95/98/xp, UNIX, LINUX etc. A set of programs that controls the entire operation of the computer such as handling Input/Output operation, user request, interrupts etc is known as operating system. Operating system manages the resources of a computer system and schedules its operation. It is a master supervisory program which provides a friendly interface for the user to interact with the computer and its peripherals and different application software as well as an environment for program to execute.
Operating System(OS) is a computer program (system Software) that act as an intermediate between the user and computer hardware. This is the first software we see when we turn on the computer and again the last software we see when the computer is turned off. As computer consists of various resources (or parts) like Memory,CPU, Disks etc. it's very difficult for the user of computer to understand how to operate them directly. So, OS becomes the interpreter between the computer hardware and user. It interprets the command of users to the hardware and presents the output to user in a suitable format produced bu hardware. For example, if we want to save our Bio-Data into the floppy disk, then we don't know "how to write" or "where to write" inside the floppy disk, but our duty is simple to give command to the operating system (i.e. Save into floppy) and now it's the job of operating system to tell the floppy drive what to do exactly. In short,OS acts as an interface and hides the every details of working principal of computer from the user, thus operating system can be regarded as resources manager.
Also operating System provides user a high level abstraction. Without knowing much more internal details of any devices the user can operate them through Operating system.

What are the Functions of an Operating System?
The main functions of an operating system are as follows:

• Memory Management: The basic function of an operating system is to manages the memory available to application programs in the computer. The operating system determine the amount of memory required for the programs instructions and for data. It allocates the amount of memory required and loads the program into RAM(Read Access memory).
• File Input/Output Management: One of the most important functions of an operating system is to manage the file input and the output. It manages the files stored on hard disk and other storage devices. It also provides the facilities such as to create the files, opening the files for read and writing trans fore the data and so on.
• Device Input/Output Management: The another important function on an operating system is to manage the input and output devices.It plays a role of an interpreter for various devices and language. It uses the specials program known as device drivers to translate the input/output request into commands to specified the hardware devices.
• CPU management: The operating system handles the processing jobs of the CPU. It helps the CPU to schedule its activities to meet the demand of the users and various parts of the CPU and the computer itself. The CPU gets the jobs from the keyboard or a storage medium , puts it into the memory , process the input and passes the results to the output devices.
• Operating in Batch Mode: Most of the operating system allows for operating in batch mode. In batch mode operating system user can instruct the operating system to execute a number of program one after another.

• Single-user operating system: In the operating system the single-user operating system can work at a time. I mean this operating system provides an environment where single-user can work at a time. It provides all the necessary resources to the user. The example of single-user operating system are Ms-Dos,Windows 95,98,XP,etc.
• Multi-user operating System: This is operating system allows more than one user to share and access the data and programs at a time. This operating system provides the total time into a number of time slices and schedule the task one after another in a given priority. The example of multi-user operating system are, UNIX,LINUX,Windows NT.
• Multi-tasking operating system: This operating system allows a PC(personal computer) to perform more than one task at a time.There are different types of multi-tasking operating system. Such as context switching, co-operative multi-tasking, Time-slice multi-tasking.
• Multi-processing operating system: In the operating system more than one processor are linked together in co-ordinate way. This processor share main memory and input/output devices.These processors can execute(run) different independent programs simultaneously. They can also execute the part of the same program. The example of multi-processing operating system are UNIX,LINUX,MVS etc.
• Real-time Operating System: This operating system is as online operating system that responds to input immediately. This operating system is designed for controlling and monitoring the external activities with time constrains. It is useful for controlling the external activities such as load shedding, traffic lights etc. The example of real time operating system are ccp, Bso,/RTOS.

U.S. to sell F-15 fighter jets to Saudis
August 9, 2010

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- "The United States plans to sell F-15 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, but made clear to an anxious Israel that it won’t include long-range weapons systems.

The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that the Obama administration said it would sell 84 F-15 planes to Saudi Arabia in a 10-year, $30 billion deal.

U.S. officials clarified to Israeli officials who expressed concerns that this would undermine Israel's military advantage in the region that the deal would not include long-range weapons systems or other arms. The U.S. officials made it clear that Washington did not make changes to the deal at Israel’s request. Haaretz reported that Israeli fears were assuaged after U.S. officials clarified the details.

Israel and Washington have held meetings over the past 18 months on maintaining Israel’s security advantage in the Middle East. The Saudi deal, which the Obama administration is expected to formally announce next month, had been a source of tension at many of the meetings, according to the Journal." -more

US arms: India against US 'blank cheque' to Pakistan
New Delhi, August 08, 2010

"India has conveyed its concern to the US over arms sales to Pakistan and is against giving a "blank cheque" to Islamabad, which could use the sophisticated weapons against it as it did in the past. "We have shared our concerns with Washington. We have said all along that Pakistan cannot be given a blank cheque in such matters," Foreign Secretary Nirpama Rao said.

She said that assistance extended to Pakistan "ostensibly for counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations could very well be used against India as the history of the last sixty years goes".

The US is "increasingly aware, and alert, and attentive" to India's concern on this issue, Rao told Karan Thapar in 'Devil's Advocate' programme on CNN-IBN.

Apart from the sale of F-16s worth $ 1.43 billion, the US is also financing $ 477 million for almost 60 mid-life update kits for its older fleet of F-16s A/B combat aircraft and financing part of 115 M-109 self-propelled howitzers. Pakistan is also getting 20 AH-1F Cobra attack helicopters and 121 refurbished TOW missile launchers from the US, according to Pakistani media reports" -more

Computer is a programmable machine that helps to process the undefined thing by using computer software. A software is a set of computer programs that we can operate in the computer. Generally, software is classified into two classes , they are , system software and application of software.They are explain below:

System Software:
System software is the software that is used to control and co-ordinate the hardware and the software. It manages the resources, memory, files, task etc.
Mainly there are following system of software:

• Language translator (processors) : The language translator are used to translate or convert the source code into the machine codes source code are written assembly or high level language. The example of language translator are, Assembler,interpreter, and compiler.
• Simulator: Simulator is the system software that is used to simulate the execution of the programs of the other computer. This types of software is used to learn the subjects of technology nature.
• Emulator: Emulator is a software that is used to mimics the function of other programs,computer,modem,printer etc. It is also used for converting the program written in one language into other language.
• Utility Software: It is a software that is related with the utilities of the computer system. Generally it is used in file management, memory management, disks repairing, virus scanning etc. The example of utility software are: Norton Utilities, PC Tools, Scan disk, defragmenter etc.
  

Application Software: It is a software that is used for specific purposes. It is needed for the user to run the program in the computer. Hardware are the external and internal parts of the computer system. It is man made components of the computer as well as other man made components. It is a physical artifacts of the technology. Artifacts means the physical components or an objects that is produced by the human crafts, specially a tool, weapon of a historical interest. In the computer system CPU is the main hardware. In the CPU, Mother board, keyboard, mouse are the main parts of the computer hardware system. Hard drive is the storage of software of a skill or informational.

Computer hardware is the physical pats of the computer system. It is opposite to a software because software can be frequently changed,modified or erased on a computer but hardware is not frequently changed or modified like a software. Computers are the main devices that developed for the modernization of social and culture in the present day and progress for the future. Computers are divided into many categories according to their features and their function or working capabilities. There are three types of computer according to their working capacity and model. They are as follows:

• XT(Extended Technology)

It is use 8086 and 8088 Micro processors developed bathe Intel Com pony. The speed of the processors is 4.77MHZ. Everything was based on the text based system. It can not support Graphics Software. It's I/O devices are not flexible and faster. Its word length is only 16 bit (8 bit is equal to 1 byte, two nibbles).

• AT computer ( Advance Technology)

It is the new technology computer. They are faster in processing then the XT computer and can run any types of software weather that is text based or GUI based. Its processing speed is more then two GHZ. It can support Graphic software as well. It uses 80386,80486,Pentium I,II,III,IV(80586) processors. Any type of complex and long processing can be done depending on the capacity of the computer. I/O devices are interactive, flexible and faster. Word length exceeds 16 bit. Co-processors are used to help the main processors for complex mathematics. The main processor of this computer is Micro processors.

• PS/2 computer(Personal System/2)

Actually , these are not totally different model of the computer but are refinement of AT computer. It is Advance from AT computer. It was build after 1990's. It is mostly used in the Laptop computers. Rechargeable and battery operated system with faster and flexible I/O devices are some important characteristics of these computer. Os/2 operating system was used at beginning, but now a days Windows operating system is used.

Tell Tale Signs

Back in the Seventies, the post-67 wave of immigrants to Israel from the West were trying to adjust to the realities of life in the country. At that time Dry Bones was the star feature of the Jerusalem Post; the paper they all read. And the most popular Dry Bones cartoons were full pagers with Mr. Shuldig that were entitled "You Know You've Been Here Too Long When..."

Those cartoons wryly tracked the little things that we did which were signs of our having gone native ...like calling a grocery store a makolet when speaking English, or smelling the cottage cheese (don't ask!).

We were strangers in a strange, new, exciting, and bewildering land.

Here in the 21st century many of us feel the same way. Like immigrants to a strange new land called the future. I thought about that when I did today's cartoon. Maybe I should start a series called "You Know You're Living In The Future When..."
